I have a 98 Fatboy with a Samson Big Gun exhaust. The problem is that one of the welds that holds the heat shield on broke so the pipe rattles like a mother. I have a ride I want to go on this weekend. If i leave the heat shield off will this hurt anything? I understand that my leg might get a little hot, but I am more worried about the bike. Any help would be much appreciated.

Wont hurt anything, the heat shields are only there to hide the blue color that the pipes turn because of the heat.

 

be careful when you fix the loose bracket. Welding back on could blue the shield
