Question Fatbot this fall - should I get Street Slammers put on at purchase?-instead of stock?

heh - fatbot

I've heard really good things about the Street Slammer bars (easy reach and comfortable ride) and I think they look great as well! I'm getting my fatboy this fall. I'm a short guy and slightly worried about the reach. I have an opportunity to get the Slammer bars and have the dealer pop them on. Based on your experience, do you think this is a good idea or should I get used to stock and adjust from there?

Also, I know all these 'should I' questions are probably annoying to you experienced bike guys, but I thank you alot for helping me get the best bike I can from the very start!

It depends on what you like, slammer bar looks bad ***, it should look great on Fatboy. The riding position I cannot comment, looks like your upper body will lean forward just a bit, it could impact your lower back on long ride. The slammer pullback should compensate this problem, the best thing to do is to try one. I used to have a Sportster with dragbar, getting tired with it, just want to get a change on my Fatboy. Go for it!

Check how the stock bars feel, then you can figure where the slammer bar will be in relationship to the stock ones. May help you decide.

Default Slammer bars

I have them on my 07 FXST and love them. A royal pain to install yourself (hiding wires inside bars).

I got the chrome housings, braided cables, and street slammers on my Heritage and freaking love them. Mine were done at the dealer right outta the gate--unless you're a serious wrench, I'd recommend having them done there as someone else said. Sales guy told me their tech was fully challenged in getting them on. I wouldn't have had a chance.

To me the riding position is perfect and the wrist position is natural and the bars improved the handling of the bike. Want to add a Street Glide or an Ultra but I don't see how people deal with the grip area being turned back so far.

I am just curious, did you guys change the cables and brake line? Slammer sits about the same level as stock by looking at it.

I had all the cables changed to braided cables--cleaner look to go with the chrome front-end and controls. The slammers are considerably lower than stock on a Heritage, about the same height as stock on Fat Boy I believe.
