Default My Fatty had it's first service checkup

It passed with flying colors at 1850km (1200 miles) and I got them to put synthetic oil in all 3 holes.

Very cool ngoti8tor. I took my bike in first couple of times when it was new. I bought me a HD Softail maintenance manual afterwards and I've been doing it myself every since. It's not that hard and the HD manual is very good. It kinda makes you feel closer to the bike too although my wife thinks I too close to it anyway !

I just did my 1K this past weekend. Filled all holes with syn3 just to keep it simple. Bought the oil from the dealer I bought the bike from. I printed out the 1K maintenance list and documented every single item and put in a 3 ring binder along with my receipts.

My only mistake was not dropping the bike off of the lift onto the jiffy when I took the oil filter off. That won't happen again for sure.

Next time I'll put 4 or 5 paper towels curled underneath the filter with the bike resting on the jiffy and then unscrew it.

Lubing the throttle sleeve was a pita and I probably won't do that again for quite awhile.

I lubed the jiffy but I think next time I'll pull the e-clip and remove it for a complete cleaning.

acchd is right. If you're mechanically inclined do it yourself and get to know your bike.

I had mine done this week at the dealer, it cost me $33 for the upgrade to synthetic. It was included in the deal, they charge $430 for the service. I do the work on the bike myself as it is what I do for a living, I just can't see myself paying that for a simple service. I do like the syn in all holes, made a big differnce
