I am considering trading my 2001 Heritage Classic for a bagger. I am wondering what type of trade-in value I can expect from the typical Harley dealer. Please give me your thoughts

2001 Heritage Classic - Black
17K miles
stage 1
V&H big shot longs
Lots of extra chrome
Mustang seat with driver's backrest
quick detach saddle bags and sissy bar
looks and runs great

 

I'd lookup wholesale/retail values on Kelly Blue & NADA websites for starters. Then look for local resources such as newspapers,craigslist and cycle traders etc to see what there asking in your area.

 

KBB says $8960... But with so many used bikes around honestly you would be lucky to get 7500-8000 for it on a trade to a dealer. Your best bet is to try to sell it privately. I know that's probably not what you want to hear, but used Harleys just aren't worth what people think they are any more with the economy being down and HD making more than current demand.

 

Here in our neck of the woods IN. I ve seen them in our paper used ads this summer for 11-13K for a FLSTC

 

You're better off selling it and then go haggle with the dealer. You'll get more out of the bike anyway whether the dealer haggles much or not. Not what you asked, but still the better way to go.
