My 2008 FatBoy is going in for its 1600KM (Canada) 1000 mile service next week..anyway I checked the oil tonight after a little 100 mile trip and the oil is down about 1/4" inch on stick..Do the bikes use a little oil on break in??

I've had my FB since Feb and have almost 6K miles on it without losing any oil. I would have the dealer check it out.

Good luck and let us know what you find out.

I have an 07 FXSTC and at 1000mi I had all the fluids changed to synthetic. At about 3000mi, I notice that I'm down about a 1/2 qt. I'm going to ask about it when I go in for the 5000mi service.

It is not unheard of... some engines will some don't...

But usually, over time it gets to be less and less...

If it is not smoking or leaking I would say keep a check on it and give it time...

Most engines use a little oil on Break in .. after the 1,000 Service keep an eye on it .. check it about every 100 miles ...

Oil will blow out of the breathers and into your A/C. Not sure if it will ever amount to .25 qts over 1k.

Do you check the oil the same way every time? The engine needs to be up to operating temperature. You are suppose to let it idle for a few minutes, before shutting it off. Then wait 4 to 5 minutes before checking the oil . The bike has to be on the jiffy stand.

Mine used about a fourth of a quart in the first 1,000 miles. From 1,000 to 5,000 it used about a half a quart and now with 14,000 it uses about a third of a quart every 5,000 miles. My evo did the same thing. The more miles I put on the less it uses.
