Default 08 Master Cylinder Leak

So I’m about to start my bike and I notice that my master cylinder gasket looks a little wet, I rub on it and paint comes off. I get home and I do a search to find out what was going on and I see that the gaskets suck and they like to leak.

What I would like to know is how many people here have had this issue and did the dealership fix it under warranty? You would think it’s not a problem, but some dealerships look at things funny.

I had the same problem with my 07 Train. Took it in and they replaced the master cylinder and the brake line. This was the front one. Nothing out of my pocket, except gas money, lol.

Have you opened this up and did you use a torque wrench? If the screws are over-tightened it distorts the seal and... leak? That's why I hate Dot 4.

I had this same problem on my 08 Deluxe. I removed the cover and found that the master cylinder was a bit overfilled. I removed some of the brake fluid and reinstalled the cover. It hasn't leaked since.

You will be covered under warranty, just bring it in. No charge. Dot eats paint.

If anyone does their own work a mix of 10% rubbing alcohol and water nuetralizes dot 4 brake fluid.

Took my 08 FXDC in for 5000 mile and tech noticed small leak before I did! New cover and seal installed under warranty and no problems since.
