Default Improved front brake on the Crossbones

Wonder if there are any after market parts available to upgrade the single piston caliper on the crossbones or has anybody here modified the existing one

I haven't but wondered the same thing. The CVO springer has 4 piston front caliper. Probably over kill unless you juice it up a little and carry 'extra weight' in the back...

Are you having issues stopping?

so why are you looking for an upgraded front brake?
I have locked up the front while practicing a few times...
I like to practice panic stops and find out the braking limits of both front and rear brakes...

If your just after a bling... bling... I would think the CVO would fit

How many miles do you have in? I know when mine was brand new the front brake was absolute sh**e. Now that its bedded in its not too bad. Sure it's not going to get the back wheel off the ground but in an emergency I too have locked it up and left a nice black mark on the road (lucky it wasn't gravel!).

Wait til its bedded in and see how you go.

All the best

I have a springer classic and when it comes to springers this is the age old dilemma. There are several threads explaining why it is that springers have a single piston brake (except CVO), the most popular being that the springer front end can't handle the braking power of a 4 piston caliper. I personally would rather tweak the springer front end than crash because I couldnt stop the bike in time.

I completely understand you wanting to change the front caliper because it was my first though as well. The front brake definitely leaves something to be desired....there are a couple of brake companies that offer aftermarket 4 piston calipers for springers....if you search through some of the springer threads you will find them.

I agree, why up date a good thing. Have not had ANY problems with the braking system. 3500 miles and had a few panick stops, again no problems.

Thanks for the advice, dont have the bones, its on order, the brake issue has me worried, comparing it to my VRSCDX and other bikes the front brake is very poor, have not driven one with a few thousand km yet

I don't see any problem with the front brake. It's black, small, and I can stop on a dime. Seriously, I do test panic stops as well, and I can't believe how quick this bike slows down. I'm a 220 lbs. dude. You have two brakes, and if used correctly, this bike stops very well.

Plus, if Ole Coyote says it works, then it works! lol
