Default Down shifting problems on the Night Train

I went up to the Tomahawk Fall Ride this weekend and on the way back I started having problems down shifting.

When I down shift it seems like the linkage sticks down and I have to pick it up with my foot before I can down shift another gear.

Any ideas as to what might be the issue?

shift rod maybe? not too sure, but something is causing that to go down further that it supposed (hi captain obvious).
when you are in N, everything is fine, what about when down in 1st or just in 2nd? same issues?

Go to the dealer and tell them you need the 2 plastic bushings that go around the shifter rod . Take the shifter peg off , pop the shifter out of the frame , take the 2 old bushings out and put the new ones in with grease . I just did mine on my 06 no more problems . Before I fixed it I kept taking it apart and cleaning it and greasing but the problem would keep coming back . Do it right the first time and save yourself some aggravation the parts should be under $5.00

I had that problem on my night train and took it to the dealer. They had no clue but tried. It was fixed for a week and started again. So I took it apart myself and found the shifter wasnt lubed enough and it was binding. I took some sand paper and wrapped it around a drill bit and wen to town on it. Lubed it up and now no issues

You need to take off the shifter and clean it out... check the nylon bushing but most time it's the grease all gummed up in there... just clean and regrease... you can use wheelbearing grease... it's very common and should take only about 5 to 10 min. to complete. Once you do it you won't believe how easy it was, and wonder why you didn't do it sooner.

story808 is correct. It seems to happen every now and then. Spray some lube on it and put it back together and you should be good to go.
