I heard the balanced motor takes away from performance, I am thinking of buying a Night Train but am a little leary of the balanced motor. I'm looking for opinions in regards to the balanced vs non balanced engines.
They say that there is more potential power in the Twin CAM A as the balancer is a hunk of rotating weight on the Twin CAM B. But really you are not going to notice. A softail will pull a touring bike any day just because it is lighter overall so the balancer is negligible.
Unless you going to race, what difference does it make? And if you are going to race, I wouldn't get any of Harley's 96CI bikes, I'd go with a V-Rod or sport bike. Get the bike you like the most and you won't be sorry.
Like everyone said. I've ridden my old mans touring bike and my train. My bike is a totally different beast than his. Even if the balanced motor did take away from performance you would never know.
Might waste a horse power on the balancer but who cares about horse power? If you ride a Harley, its all about torque. Rice burners are about horse power.
HDHornet, I haven't talked to you for a while, how are you doing?
Whatever it said could be true but I cannot tell the difference, I have ridden both 88 and 88B, hardly tell the difference. If the bike is tuned right, you can beat the crap out. Smooth as silk! Get a train man.
My brother argued with me saying his counterbalanced engine actually delivers more to the rode where my Dyna spent a lot of it's power bouncing around the rubber mounts. I don't know (or really care) but it does make some sense to me.
I have to say a harley is a harley. I've waited a long time to afford one. I had a crotch rocket years ago and would never go back again. I've never been happier than I have this summer since I finally own one!
