Default Help for the newbie

Great site and a ton of info, I am in the process of purchasing an 09 softail custom and I won't to know if I am getting a good deal. I am dealing with Mikes HD in New Castle De. Anyone dealt with this dealer? What are you guys paying for 09 and even 08 leftovers ? Thanks for your help.

Best thing to do is shop around dealers you are willing to travel to to get a bike.

Ditto to travel: it depends on what area you are living in. Supply & demand. Expaect to pay on average of around $1500-2500 over MSRP. Big thing is to make as much down payment as possible to lower the monthly's.

Over MSRP go somewhere else! I guess California Has a lot of supply and little demand because we are buying under MSRP.

Back in 2002 I saved $1,000 on a new bike by driving 30 miles to a different dealer.

From my own observation...Mike's seems to be higher priced than other local dealerships...but they tend to add more chrome/accessories to the bikes on the floor more often than I see at other dealerships...if you are looking in the Del./SE PA area, I would check out Hannums (Media/Chadds Ford), Smaltz's (Eagle, PA), Valley Forge HD, Brian's (NE Philadelphia)..there's also several more if you are willing to go a bit west out on the PA turnpike towards Harrisburg/York area.

Default You are in for some fun!!!

Bought my 08 FXSTC this summer. Paid right at MSRP, and was lucky to find one. The dealer (in VA) had to go trade a bike to a Maryland dealer to get the color I wanted... Vivid Black, of course!! No other black customs within 300 miles. The 09s were not out yet, and supply of certain models was starting to run low. On the east coast, we pay at or just under MSRP. Really isn't much dealing going on. With HDs reduced production, I would expect that to be pretty common.

Now for the fun stuff... Vance and Hines Big Shot Staggered, a SE Air Cleaner with a K&N filter, the V&H tuning module to remix the injectors... holy crap, this bike sounds and runs great. I don't know what stock was 'cause I had all this done before picking it up. Added some rear axle covers, new shifter linkage, changed out that weeble-wooble main headlight with a billet shell, new chrome bolts and screws here and there, lower belt cover, $, $$, $$$ !! Like the name says: More Chrome!

Welcome to the club... enjoy the ride!!!
