Default replace stock 3.5 gal. gas tank on a fatboy

anyone out there replace the stock 3.5 gal. tank with a larger 5 or 6 gal. gas tank on a fatboy..?? i would like to get some extra riding distance without having to stop and fill up all the time... i have located some aftermarket tanks, they say they will replace my stock tank but... being that they are probably wider than my stock tank will i have clearance issues with my forks also will these aftermarket tanks be slightly longer than my stock tank so will there be issues with my seat..??
thanks

Your tanks are most likely 4.2 and the 5.2 should fit with clearance. I have done this on my 94 Springer with no problem, I used OEM HD tanks.

i just found out what my issue might be... he told me this... "Are you filling up the right side only? Have seen several posts on here from new owners of the older split tanks, who don't realize that the crossover tube fills the other side SLOWLY.

You can circumvent that by filling the left side first (cap opens OPPOSITE DIRECTION from the right cap), then fill the right side.

Almost sounds like you think it's a small tank as you're not able to put in more gas or something, as it's definitely larger than 3.5 gallons."... now i have been trying since i bought this bike about 2.5 months ago to get the left side gas cap off, but it would not turn noe i went home at lunch time and i was able to turn it... the guy i bought this bike from probably never took it off since he owned it... ok this weekend is supposed to be nice but cool here in WNY... so i will try what he told me to do... i hope this may solve my issues... it would also save me some money that i can put somewhere into the bike...

thanks
