just a quick question about the clutch basket
I'm having a hard time seeing it in my service manual. Which way does the nut go on the shaft? I'm talking about the nut that holds the clutch basket on. Does the hex surface press against the clutch basket or does the round surface? I have it apart and can't remember which way it was originally. Thanks for any help!!

Clutch hub nut
Clutch hub nut screws on CCW. Torque to 70-80 ft-lbs with Locktite 262 (red). Check primary chain alignment of sprockets by laying a flat edge across the tensioner plate and reading both the clutch and compensating sprocket chain sides: difference should be within .030". If not, you need to increase or reduce shim thickness on the compensator side. The clutch is on the shaft and it is virtually impossible to "wobble" unless it comes off the splines or had no splines: if it did the noise would immediately get your attention! The scratches in your primary are most probably from the primary chain; the chain alignment may be the vibration cause. If you don't have an automatic tensioner (auto tensioner is just that), adjust chain tension after finding the tightest part of the chain. To find this, lift bike rear wheel, put in fourth gear, divide the rear tire into 90 degree quadrants with masking tape, and spin tire while feeling chain where most tension is located. Chain tension should be set 5/8-7/8" on the tightest part of the chain. If vibration is still present, look in "troubleshooting" in Section 1 of service manual under "excessive vibration".
