1000 mile service today?
Just dropped my bike off for her 1000 mile service today,08 Heritage, should pick up on monday. Just what should I expect from the stealer, what will they do? I did go with synthetic. How do I know that they did what they said? I noticed the rate as I was leaving for a big twin service=$295.00 plus. WOW...I love my HD...

After my 1000 mile service, I purchased the service manual and performed all further maintenance myself. What can you expect? Loose or missing fastners, scratches on paint and chrome, dents and dings in tank or covers, and grease or finger prints all over the bike. Bottom line, unless you trust your HD mechanic with "your life", do the maintenance yourself!!!

I had the 1000 done because I ride it so much I didn't have time to do all of that one myself. Since then I have changed all the oils using mobil 1 syn, have adjusted the clutch a few times to get it right, and installed all my add ons except the cams myself.
I may have them do the fall away next and change my tires.
I will do my own brake pads.
Pulling the front wheel is no problem saving me $30 for a tire change.
The rear is a little more complicated with keeping the wheel aligned and the belt proper tightness.
With that said I have been told my belt is too tight which means at the 1000 they didn't adjust it properly.
I know I could mark the bolts and count the turns. Then this would save me $60 to have the tires changed. They want to charge like $97 for me to take the wheels in and almost $170 for them to do it all.
I love working on my bikes, always have. Sometimes you have to weight everything, your time, cost etc and skills to see if it it worth it to pay someone or do it yourself. Most of the time I try to do it myself.
I paid over $150 for a lift so I could take the wheels off. If I don't do it myself that will be money lost!
I have 13000 on mine and I doubt they will ever get it again for any full service, maybe just one thing here and there I can't do myself.
