Project "No Money Bobber" has started
After a year of reading and searching around the web. I realized I can't afford to buy the "kits" or "conversions" for my '08 FXSTC sold by the big companies. So I decided to dig around on craigslist, ebay and the bike bone yards to see what I could come up with. Now I'm not a mechanic or machinest...just a mechanically inclined guy with slightly more than the average amount of tools and big imagination.
Recently I started to collect whatever bargains I came across:
1. Brand new Crossbones seat/hardware - $100
2. New 9" Rear fender blank - $100
So with colder temps starting the bike went on the jack stand: 1) shows the mock up. 2) shows the seat mounted and moved back 2"/lowered 2". 3) shows the begining stage of the frame cover w/ the ECU relocation. NO PIC - Aluminum Diamond plate fender extender/splash guard
I wanted to clean-up the harness around the neck since I installed a tank lift (2" front/1"rear)...so I tried some braided stainless steel sleeving. We'll see how looks once everything is back on.
Next on the "to-do list" is fab up some home made fender struts and mount the fender.

why did you not buy a "used bike" if you were gonna rip it apart ? thats what i ask myself every time i take another piece off my 07 that i bought brand new.
I should have bought used and had more cash to re-build it...
Yours looks like its gonna be nice though (wish i had a garage like that)

That is very cool!
You are making struts and some of the Dyna guys are cutting theirs off.
If you are wanting to black out the motor, plese let me know.
Everything from my Dyna should swap with yours...you would just need to plug the hole for my stock mids, but judging by your fab skills would be a simple job.
Mine's a 2006 with less than 8k...the parts look great.
I'm going in a different direction with my Bob.

The custom struts got put on hold. The arc of the swing arm travel through me off little bit. Lesson learned. Second lesson learned: Mock up the fitment of the fender within the swing arms range of motion - static to bottomed out. Rather than just fitting it at the static height. I have a CVMA ride this Sunday so the stock struts where used to mount the fender. I also had to fill in the fender since the stock softail struts are so long (it didn't look right). What do ya think? I was thinking of trimming a small radius in the center...or leave it straight. Haven't decided.
