Default V&H Big Shots Staggered

I would like to have V&H BS Staggered exhaust installed but wonder what all
exactly has to be done? I initially thought I only had to have it remapped once
installed but the dealer told me recently that I'd also have to have other things
done as well and I just want to know EXACTLY what I need to do.

I'm sure the install of a K&N FIPK High Performance intake would be recom-
mended right? what else, anything?

Found them for $506.02 at JCMotors.com

I have the BSS on mine with the stock air filter. It runs fine, has as much or feels like more power and the O2 level is the same as stock. It is lean but not more than stock.

OK, here is the deal, to replace the pipes, you will need the new pipes, a set of exhaust crush gaskets (I don't recommend the SE ones, get the OEM ones, they seal better) and a normal socket set. The stock pipes will unbolt with about 6 or 8 bolts, then with a flashlight and a dental tool and pull the old exhaust gaskets out. They wont look like they are there but trust me they are. They are also one time use. Take the exhaust clamps off the old pipes, because they will be used on the new ones, install new pipes as per the directions. Should take you about 2 hrs if you are mechanical, 3-4 if your just OK. Now if you change out to the SE (or other after market) air cleaner, you will need at a minimum, a stage 1 down load from the dealer (150 bucks or so) to keep the air fuel ration in factory spec, or you can go get a fuel pack (if you don't really want other engine mods) or a PCIII (if you plan on doing engine mods) or SERT (if you really really want a fine tune on your bike, but for the average Joe, its overkill). The down load from the dealer is all you really need, but you can go further and maximize your set up with the above tuning devices, and get a dyno tune for maximum power, fuel economy and throttle response. It all really depends on how much you want to spend.

thanks dan & thanks chris, wow that's a lot of info. I think initially I will just replace the pipes. If I understood you correctly it won't require anything else and I'm fairly confident I can do it myself. I probably won't do this until after the new year so I'll probably try to contact you (via private message) before I do.

thanks again.

You are correct, only pipes and youll be fine. But chaning the air box and pipes will get you about 10-15hp and 10-15 ft lbs of torque if you get a good tune. In reality, its about how much you want to spend.

I changed the cam & torque converter among other things on my 03 Silverado and it required a tune so I'm a little familiar with this.

Initially I'm just going to change the pipes and then later I will decide about the tune or maybe even consider turning the 88ci into the 96ci. Dealer said it would require a bore & stroke kit? Anyway, I can worry about that in about 12-18 months. Sometime in the next 6 months I'm going for the V&H BS Staggered pipes.

thanks for your help.
