Question Will 96ci Jugs work on 88ci Fatboy

I found a set of 96ci cylinders and pistons from an 08 with very low miles. Can I install these on a 06 Fatboy? I read that for 96 jugs to work on an 88 the crank also needs to be swapped? If thats the case, its not worth it... The seller says they will fit without this change?

If these will fit, is it worth the hassle, would the performance improvement be obvious? What else would I need to do? Any head work necessary? Will I need to change the injectors or add a fuel management unit (PCIII ?) Anything else?

Im thinking if these will work I may also add a cam to complement it? I would like to add more low and mid range torque.

Yes you can. But you will still have a 88" motor. The 96" motors get the extra inches from the stroke. The 96" come with a 103" crank. That why you only have to change the jugs and pistons on the 96" to make them 103". So pretty much the 96" motors are just stroked 88".

So basically you are saying that the 96 and 88 piston size are the same? The longer stroke of the crank provides the increased cubic inches?

Does that mean then that the HD 95ci jug kits they sell for the 88's have larger pistons than my 88ci and the 96ci jugs?

yes. they use the 103" jugs and piston. So if you put 103" jugs and pistons on a 88" you get a 95". that's why you have to change the crank, jugs and pistons on a 88" to get a 103".

And in my experience, if you do a 95" up right, it will blow a 96" out of the water. My buddy raced his at Sturgis last year and beat the V-rods. Of course he has extensive head work and stuff done by a motor head in Detroit Lakes, MN where he lives.
