Default NGK Spark Plugs

Wonder if any of you guys can help me out. Had My 89 Softail for 9 months and I am on my 3rd set of plugs. Bike runs fine then out of the blue one morning it wont start. Clean plugs check gaps still nothing. Put new set in and away she goes. Couple of months later the same trick. Have now put in Champion Plugs and alls well so far. Plugs dont seem to be fouling and engine has only done 3000 miles since a rebore.
I had a moto guzzi that didnt like NGK plugs but always ran fine on Champions. Taught me to always carry a spare new set. What plugs do you recommend.

Stick with the Champions, they make our HD plugs.

I have Champions in my Springer, but there's always been recommended NGK in my Yamaha's. I've found that there's no in between with an NGK on everything from mowers, to mortar mixers, to bikes, one time they'll run, next time nothing. They are good plugs, but always carry extras.

I'll keep the Champions in the Harley though.

Wow, this makes me think of my days when I drove a Datsun pick-up. I worked at an auto parts store and sold Champion. I put them in the Datsun and would run into problems. The Champion salesman even told me NGK's would run better in foreign machines. I ended up running NGK exclusively with great results. This was back in the 70's and I'm sure Champion has retooled their machines by now. Anyway, these are homegrown bikes, right?

I had NGK's in my Nissan P/U and it ran like a top, changed them twice in the 125,000 miles I drove it. I tried Champions in a GMC and never got them installed because I put one in the socket and the porcelain separated from the metal. I guess it's that way with any product though, so I'm not slamming or promoting either brand, just stating my experiences. A lot of time a plug will start going bad and whatever its in will run rough, with an NGK it just dies.

My GMC gets AC, the Yamaha gets NGK, and the Harley gets Champion, because they said so, and until I convince myself otherwise through personal experience, like in Donovan's case, that's the way I'm going to keep it.

If I had the problems with my Yamaha like he did with his Harley, I'd try a different brand too.
