Default Tin damage, custom paint and insurance

Okay, so I come home from a business trip and some shelves that were above my bike came off the wall and several heavy metal parts fell on it. I've got dents, dings, scratches and gouges. I was obviously unhappy but at the same time I've been planning to do a custom paint job anyway and I figure this is a good chance for me to get the insurance company to help. I don't want to just repair and touch up because I was planning to repaint anyway. What is the best wayto handle this between the shop and insurance company to make the best out of this situation?

Talk to your insurance company. They will likely get quotes for the repair and will pay that amount only. A custom job will cost more but they will pay the portion that it would have cost to repair the damage.

you might also want to check with you homeowners insurance...
I had a tree fall on a car once.... my auto policy would not cover it... my homeowners did.... with a bigger deductible...

Already checked with homeowners, they said they wouldn't cover any of it. I figure I'll take it to the dealership and have them do the quote, I'm sure they are the highest for the repair...
