Default Unbearable rattle in transmission.

23000 miles on my 07 Springer and the Rattle in the trans is geting real load. I mean it sounds like ball bearings in there. I'm very down about it and have been looking at the Baker 6 speed drive kit. Anybody done this repair ? Has it worked. I didn't mind the 5th gear whine at all but this rattle is just unbearable.

Have you had it to the dealer about it, how long has it been rattling? My Deuce has 5th gear whine, but no rattle. Something ain't right, got enough trans oil in it?

The dealer will tell you that the rattle is caused by lugging the engine. In about 99 percent of the cases this is true. At what rpm and speed are you at while cruising in 5th gear? If your rpm is under 2200 you are lugging the engine. This was a common complaint in the '07 model bikes. Mostly in the baggers, but every now and then some of the softail guys complain about it. Fifth gear is the only gear in the trans that has straight cut teeth, which also makes it noisey. All the rest are helical cut.

This thing rattles at 75mph. Dealer says he can't hear a thing.

A friend of mine with an 07 Road King kept complaing of a unbearable sound from the tramsmission. Dealer kept saying that there was nothing wrong and blaming it on the 5th gear.
Finally they pulled off the primary cover and found that the compensator nut had backed off and was chewing up the inside of the primary cover.

It solved the problem. Just a thought to maybe check out????
