Default wondering about insurance

I was wondering this today. After we buy our bikes we of course spend ALOT of money customizing them so their value obviously increases. My question is this, say you get into an accident after adding $5000.00 (just picked a random price) worth of goodies.

Does the insurance take into account all the extra goodies you added to the bike after it was purchased?

Every company has a different policy, covering different limits of non stock items...and then only if they have prior knowledge of the custom parts....check with your agent...

Yep, each insurance company is different. You need to ask what is covered. You will probably have to buy extra insurance to cover all of your accessories. BTW: Make sure you ask your agent if they cover medical expenses if your ever in an accident on your bike. Many companies don't (State Farm for one).

I pay extra for 5K worth of accessories coverage. And coming from a guy who has worked in claims for the past decade, SAVE YOUR RECEIPTS and TAKE PHOTOS of your bike with the new stuff on it.

I have reciepts for stuff I have bought. Now I am going to have some painting done. Is the cost of that (about 1500) handled the same way as long as I have pics & rec.?

Most insurance companies will only allow a certain percentage over the book value of the bike...

When I tried to get more stuff insured on my Sportster they informed me that I could only get a few thousand over...

That don't nearly cover what I have on the bike... guess they don't like chrome and custom painting either...
