Question If ST in FXST stands for soft tail then...

What does CW stand for in the rocker series?

And while the FXCW is a soft tail why didn't they name it FXSTCW? It is not a FXSTC (custom soft tail).

Are new ST models to be eliminated by lettering?

This brings up a good point. Could someone post what all the letters mean for all models. I have been wondering? Most of them are easy to figure out but what do the beginnings of the letters mean? i.e FX ect.

I don't think ST stands for softail......maybe it does
FX designates the frame/front end series I believe

Maybe it's something like:
FXST = standard, base FX model
FXSTC= C for Custom
FXSTB= B is for black, night train

Fatboy is FLSTF and the frame is similar to the FX softails, at least in the back, but it does use a different front end and rake

That is one of the reasons that CVO bikes cost so much, you get more letters.
Mine is a FLSTFSE. It is simple to break down: wide front end, softail, fatboy, scremin eagle
I would guess the FXCW stands for narrow front end, custom, wide tire or possibly wide rear end?

FXSTS?

FX may be frame, ST may be rear suspension type and S may be Springer.

It's what I've ALWAYS ridden. All 9 of my bikes have been "Springers" because that's what's best. *smirk

First showing of the letter...

F stands for big twin
X stands for thin front big wheel 19 to 21"
ST soft tail
L wide short front tire 16"
T Tour
H Electra glide
XL small "experimental" 1200 cc
R rubber mounted
B black or bob
Second showing of letter..

S springer
C custom or classic
I fuel injected
F fat boy
D deuce

There is a great article about this in "American Iron" Jan 2009 issue. Article on page 32 called "Harley's Alphabet". Don't ask me why I have that issue since it is only 2008. Learned a lot of sh*t from that little article.

128,

the reference chart is incomplete. For example, and as I have asked above, What doe CW stand for in the alphabet?

Thanx for the chart though. Please see my above lettering and where I got it from.
