Thumbs up rocks in transmission

Rocks it was ! Well not all. But it turns out that Harley is having a problem with the primary chain hitting the case. The mech also found my 2/3 shift forks slightly misaligned or bent and the Dog Locks warn with a bad grove on the locks. The bent shift forks push the dog locks in the gears ever so slightly. Warrenty you say ? I hope so. I have 23000+ miles and there the only ones that have been into the transmission.

Default rocks in transmission

How did you get them to go into it? I took mine to Ray Price in Raleigh, NC. and I was told that I was lugging it. Would like for mine to be taken apart before the warranty runs out, but seems like they do not want to. I did use Amsoil gear lube and it made a huge difference.

Pull your primary cover and check your chain.

I had my '08 in a few months ago. Sounded like somethng hitting lightly on the inside front primary. Of course the dealer didn't hear it. I have only 65% hearing in that side and they hear nothing!!

Anyway, where is the chain hitting nside? Front of case?

I told dealer that I would pay to open it up and take a look. The chain hits the case where the bolts are threaded or cast into the case. The mech told me that Harley new about this on some of their bikes. He will go and shave the areas down with a dremel tool. You can see real plain where the chain has rubbed on the case.

Thank you for the info. I need to do my 10,000 mile service, so I'll take a look at it then. It is bad that you have to offer to pay for something that should be covered under warranty to get them to look at it. Seems that way most anywhere you go anymore...not just the HD dealers. Still wouldn't ride anything else though, so it's really not that bad...
