Default Need Advice for stage 1 upgrade ...

I'm saving up for this so I don't have piles of cash under my bed. As with everyone, I want that "Harley sound" you know, potato potato potato

Bike: 08 Heritage Softail
Exhaust: V&H Duals w/fish tails
Intake: Big Sucker?
EFI kit: ?

I've read somewhere that the quiet baffles with the V&H exhaust gives a throatier sound, can anyone confirm this?

Also for the intake, is Big Sucker the way to go? Any suggestions on what kit I should get?

Thanks in advance!!

Iam doing mine on a BUDGET also due to the fact Iam putting 12.5 Buff bars on too......
Big Sucker is the way to go,I went with a smaller filter(the one HD puts on) but just need longer studs to put the BS filter in if I want to.If I had the cash I would go with the Power Comander for the EFI but needed to get by on a grand SO.....................
Air Filter and mount...174.00
Dobeck tuner....239.00
1 3/4" Rush slip ons.....300.00
Billet AC cover.....65.00
Buff Bars....145.00
Grips....69.00
wire extention kit....32.00
cables....120.00
Dyno...150.00

I can't speak to the V&H duals... but -

I went with the SE air cleaner from Chicago HD - $139.95, the Power Commander III from Fuel Moto - $279.00 (already mapped for my bike), and the 2" Rush slip-ons from Fuel Moto - $229.00 for a total of $656.95. then had a mechanic install all of this for $100.00.

you'll get as many different ideas as posts - everyone has thier own opinion. none are wrong or not as good as the next.

Holy smokes, that's cheap! I'd go do that tomorrow for under $700!! And you get the Harley sound? Hmm, maybe I should rethink the whole dual exhaust thing, but man I really love that look...

I'd be looking at 699.13 for the pipes and $169.95 a pair of fish tails and to top it off, the quiet baffles are $29.95 each!

Sorry, but the potato, potato, potato sound only comes from carbureted bikes. The EFI's have a faster, pre-set idle speed. You can't change it unless you want to screw up your oil pressure at idle.

You really want to see a grown man cry? Ok, well, then I guess I'm trying to get as close as possible. At least throatier if that's a word heh.

well, you can always go with different cams - something in the low to mid range, and pipes like the V&H BR or Hooker Troublemakers..... big bucks! around $1000-1200 for cams and $600-800 for the pipes.

for the $760 I have in my bike - I like the sound just fine!!

Jamie at Fuelmoto is the way to go. I got premapped pc3 with Rinehart slipons for
Under $700 and the SE Air filter for $125. Installation was not difficult to do yourself. Bike sounds great and runs strong

Hmm, funny you should mention that, I have a co-worker that's doing mods to her SVT (cage I know) but she's hot. I laugh because to hear her talk about this and me (n00b) nodding my head like I know what she's talking about.

But now I find myself reading up about cams, I don't plan on doing this for some time but I'm curious as to how cams modify the sound of the bike?
