Default Fender strut Bolts, are a PITA!!!

Trying to install a softail tool box on the left side, for the bracket. Dam torq bolts under the seat or close to it are tight, and won't give.

Bike is on the kickstand, not on a lift, so I didn't know if this may be a problem.
I thought these struts are separated from the frame technically, compared to the older softail models.
Did the search thing, old postings with lack of information..

Harley is a brilliant monster when it comes to doing the simple things,,,, I guess I have to go buy a compressor, air tools, and a jack hammer.

Thanks,

Use a heat gun or hair dryer to loosen the loctite ,that is on the bolt threads and they should turn a lot easier. I took my strut bolts out using a long cheater bar.
Make sure you are using the right size Torx bit or you will probably strip the Torx pattern in the bolt heads.

Breaker Bar - Home Depot - 15 bucks today..... LIFETIME of fewer headaches and stripped heads

While you are there pick up some stainless bolts in ALLEN head to replace them with.... look better and you will thank me later.

mine took a good set of craftsman torx sockets, long breakerbar and lonts of hand tapping on the bar to break loose the loctite. replace them with a chrome set.

I've done a lot of mods on my bike and one bolt on the fender struts caused me more grief than anything else .I tried everything to get it out, finally had to grind off the head and drill it out, then re tap it.I was lucky that I was replacing the struts anyway so I didn't have to worry about F'ing up the old one.Good Luck

To get a better bit on the bolt use a piece of paper towel on the end of your socket it makes it fit a little more snug and will help you from stripping it.

get someone to hold the bike upright while you do it. i had trouble removing them but found it easier when the bike was upright. good luck, and yes i would replace them with allens. good luck.
