Default 96 vs 103 vs 110 vs 113 vs Jims

So, I let the dealer talk me into a 103 SE Stage III kit from Harley for a 2009 Rocker C because "It was the best bang for the buck!" Don't get me wrong, the kit was well worth the money and the bike is very fast but I'm kicking myself for not getting the 113 race kit. Two questions: I'm not sure that I can afford it, but the Jim's Race Engines look wild. Does anyone have them installed and how does it compare? Secondly, has anyone upgraded from the 103 to the 113 and if so, is there a significant performance change? I went the 103 route because the local dealer promised the extended warranty on it, and I'm sure he'll do the same on the 113. I just don't want to pay for the entire kit, when I have several 113 components already. I know I'm just another case of a "You can never upgrade enough" Harley customer, but I'd appreciate any insight.

The trouble with a new engine is serializing it to your title.

...never trust the dealer about what the best "bang for your buck" is.

The 96" IMHO is stroked as much as you'd want to stroke an engine if you want it to last. I would only increase the Bore, and try and make it more efficient. I like the GMR 107" builds.

I have heard good things about those 113"s. The only reason they are a "race engine" is because they are not technically street legal in many places, certainly not EPA okay. They are not real "race" engines. Just remember, no long-stroke moter will give you that much performance. You will continue to see smaller and smaller gains as you invest more money.

If $ wasnt the issue then Jims will out run any of teh combinations you listed, and with ease!! the 103 runs really well so do teh 113's but compared to thejims not even close. Remember when you purchase a jims it is a crate motor and if you ahve tthe right dealer do your setup they will buy your existing motor for about $3500 easing the cost of the jims alittle bit. I didn't read where you are at, but a friend of ours owns a harley dealership in Iowa and he had put plenty of motor combinations is for us, including a few of the jims motors, 120" and the 131" and he will buy back your existing motor from you. and ofcocurse put a warranty on the new motor.

Most companies don't warranty anything over 113" (at least not with a real warranty. They just don't last. Read the fine print on that. A 117 stroker may feel great to ride, but it won't last long, unless you really baby it, without major work.

Hi guys,

I have just been reading your threads and it sounds like I'm on a similar mission. Me and my 2009 Fat Boy are looking for more POWER! and I have been told by my local dealer that the way to go is a S14 1690 Race kit (part # 27516-08). At the moment it is a stocker with the 1584cc. I was thinking about the 110 big bore but the dealer tell me I'll get a 130BHP from the smaller 1690 upgrade and only 80BHP from the 110 regular Screamin' Eagle, is this true?

My other concern is the durability, how many miles can I expect to get out of a race kit?

My third and final question is what will it do to my MPG? As I don't have to many "Bucks to Bang".

I would really appreciate any light you can throw on this subject.

Cheers
