Default Removing springs from front forks

Can't get the springs out on 02 softail (fatboy) front fork tubes. Removed the fork cap nut, but the springs won't push up the plug. Whats the secret to getting the plug out. I worked the shocks up and down, but the plug won't come up? Is it held someway. I even tried removing the fork cap nut on both sides and working the shocks up and down - no luck - must be captured some how!

Not sure if it's the same but did you take the tire off and undo the bolt from the bottom of the slider? Check the arrow.

I think that bolt just releases the dampener rod, not connected to upper fork spring "plug" under fork cap nut ( 1 3/8" ). I just want to add a spacer to stiffen the springs.
On mine the fork cap nut (1 3/8") is explosed. Is the plug, which is down a little, I can see it, threaded also? I can fill the tubes with oil thru this opening, so I assume the plug should come up thru this opening along with the spring?

Nice looking Bike!

You have to drop the fork tube out of the tree to get the "second" plug out. It will unscrew too. So loosen the pinch bolt on the lower tree and slide it down. The second cap will have "spring pressure" so be careful.

Good Luck!
