Unhappy 1996 Heritage Softail Clutch Problem

Hello everyone, hope someone can help...I'm at a loss!!!
I hope I can explain this good enough so that you can understand my problem. When I'm riding my softail and I come to a complete stop and hold in the clutch, when I let the clutch out slowly and give it some gas and take off my softail makes a funny noise like a gear slipping the noise is quick as if something slips and makes a quick noise no more than a second and it only happens when releasing the clutch and giving it some gas. It doesn't happen all the time only on occasion, could it be something with the clutch? I just installed 18inch apes and put in a new clutch cable. Now that I'm thinking about past times it's happened, it's happened even when turning a corner at a very slow speed and when I pull in the clutch and after turning the corner and releasing the clutch and giving it gas it makes that quick gear spurt sound some where on the left side of the bike.
I know this is such a vague description but I'm hoping someone here has had the problem or heard of the problem and can help me out with some clues as to why and where the problem is and what I need to fix the issue.

Thanks!
Houdini

Since u changed your clutch cable I would re-check your install. You should post this in the tech forum...

I agree.... I would check and make sure it is adjusted correctly... and that it is not binding anywhere..

Re-adjust the clutch, Same thing happened to me after 16" ape install and it went away with a simple clutch adjustment.
