Default 2009 Heritage - anything to look out for?

Looked at an 09 heritage today. The bike has close to $18k on the clock. It is very clean, and has a set of V&H slip ons on it, outside of that its stock. We just started looking for one for my wife. Looking to trade her metric in on it.

We are planning to go back next weekend to take it out for a ride, they were about to close, but still offered for us to ride it today. We just didn't have the time, we had to get back home to babysit our grand daughter.

Anything to look for with this year, any common issues?

Are we better off looking at one with a 103? They have a 12 in a single color dark blue but like the she colors of the 09 better. (Dark red and gold)

They have it priced at 11,999, but he said they may be able do a little better for us. (Not sure what that means)

Anyway - thoughts on what to look for and thoughts on the price please.

Thanks!

Original compensator? I had to have mine replaced on my '09 Softail at 15k miles. Typical issue on '09s. Ron

Almost 30K on my 09 and other than routine maintenance items the bike has been trouble free.

I change all fluids with Syn3 every 5K and even though I don't run it hard I don't baby it either.

$10,900 for a '09 is a little high at least where I'm from. Plus I would never buy a '96' incher when a '103' can be had for similar money. I bought a 2011 Heritage with 3900 miles for $ 10000 in purple and black, my first softail in July of 2015. I liked it so much , I traded it in a few months later for a 2016 in white and teal. The 103 inch is just that much better.

Not sure where you're from but $10,900 is about right here in Nebraska for an 09 Heritage especially with low miles.
I suppose a deal can be had but that's generally one off deals.

As for a 96 vs 103; I've rode both and didn't notice any difference in the extra 7 cubic inches.

To the OP, I would try to get the price down to around $10K.
The riding season is not far from being over here in Nebraska so the time to sell is now and the time to buy isn't far off.

My '09' Heritage has been flawless for over 40,000 miles now. I've heard more complaints about heat with the 103 than the 96. I think you're doing well here.

My wife has an 08 and it has been a great bike for her with 33,000 miles. In that time replaced the compensator and the starter. The 96 is plenty of power on the bike .. Good Luck .

A stock 96 incher rear wheel net is only 60 horse at 5000rpm plus. Torque 68 at around 3000rpm. 'B' motors put out about 8% less power due to the balance system. If that's plenty of power then why are none of you running stock ??

We're getting off topic but since you brought it up; I assume your numbers are correct but I don't think the numbers really matter to most riders.

I can't speak for others but the reason I'm not running stock has nothing to do with the numbers.
I upgraded my pipes because I wanted a louder and deeper tone
I upgraded my AC along with a fuel tuner because I wanted better tuned motor that ran cooler, had better acceleration response and get better mpg.

Anything to look out for, yeah, all the fun you are gonna have. Over 40,000 on my 09 and most of that highway. If ya don't like the 96" power it doesn't take much to smarten it up.
