Anyone have any advice on how to go about doing this.
I want the rear fender to sit low with the rear tire.
I have been lurking on several forums, but not a lot of luck yet.

I am going for a rigid frame look but with a softail feel.
on my stock 200 rear tire, or maybe a 240/250 max tire

I know I will need to weld bungs on the swingarm...
But I am not sure about the seat

Check out Shadetree customs out of Texas. A few of the cross bones guys have put on their rear fender and it looks killer. They were included in a rebuild of a cross bones in the last issue of American Iron. Actually I guess that was 2 issues ago now.

you are saying that a rear fender kit for a bones, is good for a softail/night train too ?
I don't want a Bones look, with the seat way up, I am trying for a rigid look.
any ideas on what seat, or what need to be done to accomplish this.

to get the low fender you want your right it would be a rigid mount.however you will need a sprung seat beacaue the fender will move with the wheel.youcan go with a strutless fender setup but it won't hug the wheel as much.here's a couple of Russell Mitchells' exile trains to give you an idea. ones an 09 andthe other an 05.brass ***** bobbers has some also but they are more of a bones look

 

You don't have to run a sprung seat with the Shadetree fender...
you would probably have to have a seat modified or custom made to get the look...

the rear fender moves with the tire... so you can't have a seat that mounts on the rear fender... you need some clearance...

 

I just installed my shadetree rear fender and it's a little shady. The top mount wants to slide to the left and rub on the right side of my tire. And the bottom mount...well I'm nervous it will come loose. The bolts, holes, and bottom of the swing arm don't line up well for a proper, snug fit. I'm going to weld it on tomorrow unless someone has a remedy.

Where do you put your computer? Under the seat?

 

I tucked it behind the battery box in the swingarm cavity and zip tied it. Had to get rid of a bunch of plastic and reroute the wiring, but it turned out sweet. I also took that silly plastic batt. cover off and black laquered everything in there.
