Best I have found for chrome is ammonia or greased lightning with 000 steel wool.

WD40 is really a Moisture displacement..... but will melt chrome after 40 uses, that why the number 40 is on the can.

Best thing I ever used on chrome is Lemon Pledge. Smells good too!

i have used it to clean stuff like glue and dirt. i just wash off after that with soap and water

WD40 is perfectly safe. In the old days folks used to use kerosene to get stuff like that off, then they switched to WD40 in the detailing shops which obviously now they have proprietary chemicals for such now.

They only draw back with WD40 is if left on then gets wet it tends to leave drip marks all over.

Steel wool can leave tiny bits of steel, and it will rust, suggest scotch brite...

I used it on my highway bars and had no problems at all. Your good to go.
