Default Questions for Softail Custom Owners

I recently bought a 2007 Softail Custom with only 460 miles. I plan to get a service manual, but for now I have some basic questions:

• How many quarts of oil does the bike need with a filter change?
• Is there a place to stash registration and an insurance ID card on the bike?
• How accurate is the gas gauge?
• Is there a round or flat surface (standoff) behind the reflectors on the fork sliders? I want to remove the reflectors.

Oil Capacity 3.0 qts. (2.85 L)
• Is there a place to stash registration and an insurance ID card on the bike?
Yes – Your Wallet
• How accurate is the gas gauge?
NEVER trust your gauge, use your odometer
• Is there a round or flat surface (standoff) behind the reflectors on the fork sliders? I want to remove the reflectors.
Just take them off

Hogdiver96, I love that paint job. I've got flame controls and other chrome and I'm looking for a nice flame paint job. I don't like the flames that have the outline and stick out. I like the suttle look. did you get that local and mind tell me what it ran?

It's actually only 2 3/4 quarts. 3 is only on a new engine with never having oil in it. It will be overfull when hot if you use 3
Wallet is your best bet.
Round under the reflectors.

I stuck a copy of Reg and Ins card inside a Ziploc bag and hid the whole thing inside the backrest pad. The pad can be slid off easily and quickly opened for access to the paperwork. I would advise COPIES ONLY in such a place. The originals ride in my wallet.

If the reflectors are stubborn, heat them up with a hair dryer. Thats how I got them off my rear fender without damaging the paint, won't hurt the chrome.
Don't trust the gas gauge, use your odometer, depending on your gas mileage you should be able to go about 150 miles between fill ups.
For oil change put in 2 1/2, run it, then check and top off.

Wow! I haven't used an odometer to track fuel since I rode a '77 Bonneville. How much fuel is there in the tank when the low fuel warning light turns on? Sorry for the basic questions. I didn't get an owners manual with the bike.

That is something you'll have to figure out on your own, each bike is different. General rule of thumb is fill it at 150 miles. You may have to fill it sooner, and then you may get more. All depends on your riding habits. After a while, you'll know...

BTW - Your gauge could be dead accurate, but just one time running out of gas, and you get the idea...
