Default Wider tire & rim on a 2001 FXST

I was given a brand new, never used mirror chrome thunderstar rear wheel for a 2003 to 2005 fxst(part# 44544-08) What type of modifications may it need to fit my 2001 fxst or will it fit with just a new chrome sprocket?

How wide is the wheel? How wide of a tire do you want to put on it. How wide is the stock tire on your bike?

I think your stock tire is a 130. I believe you can put a 150/80H-16 on the new wheel and just bolt it in. Am not sure about the brake caliper ....you may need the one that is for the newer bikes because of the thickness of the part the axle goes thru....but not sure. Someone should know. Maybe just mount up the wheel only to see if all fits...think it will.
Good Luck....Pete

I am almost positive that it will fit. You shouldnt need to make any more mods to get the axle to bolt in there. Your stock tire should be the 130, as kc5gxc said. To go to a 150 all you need to do is change out the hardware on the inside of your fender. The stock accorn head bolts are too bulky. You just need some flatter hardware, which was what came with the "wide tire kit" which was available for your bike (which put a 150 on it). To go any bigger than a 150 you need to center your rear wheel in the fender and slightly modify your brake caliper. That will get you room for a 160.

Get button head allen's for the inside of the fender and chrome acorn's for the outside. Ace Hardware baby!
