Default Softail Deluxe Engine Guards and Highway Pegs

I have an 09 Deluxe and am currently looking for an engine guard and highway pegs. Was wondering if any one could advise me which set up is the best. I understand every bike needs to be set up to the specific rider, but some guidance would very much be appreciated.

I have the same bike - bought in April '09. About two months later I picked up the HD moustache engine guard with rubber spots located on it for highway riding. I like the look of the guard a lot but don't use the "pegs" too often - maybe because they are located a little close in to the bike.

It depends on the look you want. For the deluxe I like the HD nostalgic crash bar as it goes with the style of the bike.

I've got the more squared bars on mine. I do agree that the nostalgic bars seem to work perfectly with the bike, but honestly...it's what you like. You can mount on whatever kind of pegs you like to either kind of bars. I only use the pegs on the longer runs..and they're very nice to use on those long runs. Very comfy.

I used the standard softail bar and cheapo HD pegs. My legs are kinda short so I can't reach the pegs so rather than use extenders I leave my heel on the board and rest the ball of my foot on the peg, works great for me. Personally I don't like the front on view of the nostalgic bar but that is JMO

love the information that every one has posted.. Thank you for the pics.. With the mounting of the pegs....can u mount them inside of the either, or is it more comfortable to mount them outside. I guess it would depend if you have the square bars or not.

You can mount the pegs on the inside or outside. I've got the shorter legs so I do the same thing Doghair does and just rest my feet on the pegs. But you can get extensions to move the pegs anywhere you want.

You can pick up pegs online at ebay or wherever. The bar is probably too much to ship so a local store would work best. You can mount all of it yourself. Just takes a few bolts and you're done.

I just received a message from another post who states that any set of Engine Guards would work, but to purchase the 360 pegs so you can adjust them to what feels comfortable. I had no idea that they made pegs like that...
