Default Widest Tire for a 2003 Fatboy?

Can someone please tell me what's the widest rear tire that can be mounted on an '03 Fatboy? I I have to notch the lower belt guard, that's ok.

How much time, effort, and money are you willing to spend?

That is pretty much all that stops you from going crazy with a huge rear wheel.

If you keep it all stock (I'd have to look it up), I was thinking a 160 is as big as you could go keeping the original fender, etc.

Thanks for the link to Metzeler's fitment chart. However, they only list the "safest, best" tire size NOT that maximum size that will fit. I was thinking a Metz 150/80-16 would work well with maybe a slight "notch" of the belt guard.

150 dunlop goes with no problems. flip the fender strut bolts. shouldnt need to cut the belt guard. most manufactures list the tire width. i wouldnt go any larger than the 150 without some caliper/spacer mods. steve

I may be wrong, but I thought the 2003 came stock with a 150. I upped my 2000 Fatboy from a 130 to a 150, reversing the fender strut bolts, as above, with no problem.

Metzler 160 fits only because it is narrower than a 160 Dunlop. I have had both a 160 Metzler and a 150 Dunlop on my bike. Stick with the Dunlop. Plus it is the only tire made in the USA and the tread pattern looks better than the Metzler pattern on a cruiser. The Metzler looks like it belongs on a sportbike.
