Calling all FatBoy Lo Owners
Tires for the lo
I bought my 2012 lo used with 2,200 miles in January 2013 and have put about 32,000 miles on her since. I've been through a few tire changes, all Michelin Commander II's after replacing the stock tires when they wore out. Never did get great mileage on the II's, especially disappointing front tire mileage. I was told I should get twice the wear out of the front compared to the rear but my experience has been the opposite.
My mechanic, who has been surprised by the poor mileage, suggested I try the Dunlop American Elites and I had him install a set a little over a week ago. When I first put the Commander II’s on I thought they were just great, and they were, compared to the stock tires. However, after about 350 miles of riding I must say, these Dunlops seem by far vastly superior. Cornering is way more confident, these tires truly roll like they are made for this bike. And, unlike the Michelins, they are made right here in the U.S.A. Anyone looking to replace their tires should definitely consider switching to these. I’ll report back on mileage results when the first tire needs replacing.

weird ware
I too got weird wear on Michelin II's. The front tire would wear out on the sides and leave the middle. I've never got over 5500 miles out of a rear either which is only about 500 more than the stock Dunlop's but the front did last about 1k more on my 2011. I've switched to the American Elite on the rear and will replace the front with the same when the tires worn out. I to like the feel of it so far.
not sure there chunks, lol. ahh, road conditions, flat roads here in delaware, not many pot holes like in new jersey or other states i've been too. i'd say riding style, but i get on the throttle a lot. i cruise between 65 and 70, on the rare occasion 80. do your roads there have a bad crown?
