Guys,
Just last night my 04' Fatboy would not start. Upon pressing the start switch, the starter energizes and only spins - jack shaft not engaging with the ring gear, turning the engine over. It now appears to have been an escualting failure, as earlier this week the bike had began increasingly difficult to start. At times the starter would spin then engage violently. Now, the starter only spins.

I haven't yet looked through he service manual, but would this likely be an issue with the solenoid, starter clutch, or should I consider an entire starter replacement? The bike has 11K miles.

Is this a big job? What components need to be removed? Suggestions? I do my own wrenching and have most tools necessary, so it'll be a nice weekend project. Yeah right. Way too much chrome to remove!!!
