Default '06 Night Train questions (the right bike?)

I'm new to the big twin world, and got a few questions concerning an 06 Night Train at a local dealership. I've always liked the Night Train, and I'm now looking for a bike that I can ride 2 up with the wife comfortably. This particular bike is an '06 with 17,600 miles going for $11,995. It's got a stage 1 with a Thunderheader pipe, a black crash bar, and a quick-detachable sissy bar. What I'm wondering is, is this a decent price, and is there a huge difference between the 88b and current 96b engine? I don't do any long, cross-state trips, just the occasional weekend day-long 100-300 mile day trip. I don't know if I'm going to need the 6th gear, either. So far, this bike is attractive because of the price, and the insurance would be cheaper (not by a bunch though). Just not sure with the mileage and all.
Anyway, I understand these are pretty newbish questions, but any and all advice is appreciated.

I paid $12250 FOR MY 07 from florida about 6 mths ago and then shipped it to australia , The price seems a little high for that many mile , keep an eye on ebay and you will get a lot better buy than that and a trick is to only buy from a dealer with a great rating and that way you no what you are getting . 06 is a great bike and unless you cruise above 65 mph for long periods you dont need to go to a 07 for the 6 speed . The 5 speed box has a lower first gear which is a lot better if you are going to be 2 up heaps . the six speeds first gear is shocking to take off going up a hill 2 up , have to ride the clutch heaps ......not good. Good luck on your search and go the night trains
this is what my train looked like when i first brought it

I assure you that your wife will not like the stock seat. There are plenty of aftermarket seats that she will appreciate.

Ive got an 06 n/t with 16,000 odd miles on it no problems,if there
anything like the evos there surpost to be good for 100,000 miles.
as has been said already your wife wont like the stock seat, not
unless shes really small, and the 6th gear is only for use over 65 mph
from what ive heard. On the up side i dont think there as heavy as
the 96 engined bikes,my main worry is when i sell it will everyone
be looking for a 96,although n/ts seem to be so popular it probably
wont matter. As for the price of yours that would be around £8,000
in our money,i was offered £8,500 not so long ago but that was on a trade in....good luck what ever you decide.

I'd go for an 07 or later because of the newer oil pump and cam chain tensioner setup - much better, no maintenance! 6th gear is better for lots of freeway riding at 70+. Never heard that 1st gear is higher on 6 speed bikes? This would not concern me if true... Price seems a little high. If you are paying tax and license fees also, its over priced.

I have a 06 Night Train with thunder header, detachable sissy bar an sundowner seat for long trips. The wife an I ride 300 to 400 miles a day on a weekend with friends. Bike rides real smooth, I have no complaints with it, wife says how much better the ride is than the 07 dyna I had. I added recently a wind vest windshield for the long rides an worth every cent. The price is not bad for the bike.
