battery dead?

I did the same thing (50 amp charge for several hours on a dead OEM battery) with less than stellar results. The battery was smoking hot and bleeding hydrogen gas after 3 hours. Battery still doesn't work worth a crap. I wouldn't use the 50 amp setting for anything other than a quick boost to get it started. I get the impression that the results could have been much worse, especially considering that the battery was still in the bike...

I always say if 2 amps is good, 200amps has to be a whole lot better. Makes sense, right.
I have one of the best. Charges and maintains and has a 10 year warranty. This is the fastest shipping company I've ever dealt with and it's free. Don't know how they do it but I order today and UPS delivers tomorrow. They also sell the jr model which I heard is just as good @ about half the price.

i have 2 chargers, a Schumacher and a sears. both are auto and have 2 amp 10 amp. i was thinking of getting a trickle charger but i wont go more than 4 days without riding. at 3 years my battery was showing signs of getting old. i change it with wal-mart battery for the price and the availability if i needed a new one. next time i will go back to harley as the post are OEM for harley. my post are on top and was pain to connect. i gave $6 for the Schumacher at garage sale.
