Just my opinion, but why does one buy a bike and then make it into something it wasn't meant to be? They make a ton of different bikes. Not taking a Heritage and throwing hardbags etc. on the bike, but the FX lines and such. Why not start with a bike that at least leans towards your needs and likes? Just me?

Well, in my case. A car pulled out in front of me and I trashed the Heritage soft bags...new bags were expensive, so I went with hard bags for half the price. I liked the way they looked but thought since I had to replace the tombstone fairing, figured that the batwing would match the bags. $550 for the bags and $235 for the fairing. Seat was scraped up but, I found a Lepera solo for $50.

I think it started out as a way to save money...then I had an excuse to do something that didn't look like "every other Harley". I personally like the way it turned out.

And it does at that. And the reason for the change makes sense too...so now I know!! Thanks

It's a funny thing Jcsshane, in one sense I hear you but it another it's like an ongoing evolution of what you like and don't like in a bike. When I first got my Fatty, I loved the Fatboy. Loved the solid discs, was actually looking for beach bars for it, hated apes and long fishtails and wasn't a bagged guy really at all. Now I have apes, Long fishtails, will be changing to some 52 Fat Spokes and have actually started to think about a removable batwing fairing.

So do I! But I guess where I was really going was not the Heritage / Fatboy / Deluxe transformations - But the FX skinny tire etc, bikes.. I love those bikes - One of reasons I can't sell my 2001 FXSTS - But I put a windshield on that bike for about 20 minutes, once, and it was the goofiest thing ever!! It was an FX....not a FL....But like you said it's a continuing trip down what we like.
