How to take off front & rear tire on a rocker
welp finally got around to doing this thread,im doing this to encourage others to
"do it on their own" i had NO experience whatsoever b4 this wonderful forum
and threads like this gave me confidence.quick shout out to dragoslayer, phantom, rubicon, rail, powderpro.
step 1. jack bike up,tie down w/strap for safety
step 2.im starting w/ front so removed brake caliper, bungee out of the way
(think it was a 10mm wrench)
step3.next loosen up these 2 bolts that hold axle on (very poor design IMO)
think that was a 1/4 allen please correct me along the way im goin off memory ThankYou
step 4.remove ugly soon to be covered fxcw bolt
7/8 allen harbor freight $16.00 loosen up allen on 1 side torque wrench on other then kinda
"unscrew axle"
pop er off
ok next the rear tire
1. off with rear caliper torques bit 25 i think ,then bungee outta the way
2. then take off chromey axle covers(no pics sorry) think its the smallest allen in the box
then you can see how the chrome covers are installed if you didn't install em
7/8 allen get ready this is on real real tight
the other side is a 2 piece (for chrome cover) take off
3. time to loosen up belt ension 9/16 socket mark or count
so you can get it as close when puttin tire back on
also do both sides at same time (few turns on each side )
4. after bustin axle nut off there is a tiny black plastic thangy that probably dont do chit take that out 1st then off w/ the nut, then i tapped lightly w/ rubber mallet to free axle up
other side as axle is coming out
5. after its out get ready for tire to drop, also
make sure bike is jacked up enough too 2 people is a BONUS
puttin back on rear & front make sure you take pics or write down
where all spacers nuts n blots go my memory suxs(too much abuse younger years)
also removing caliper bracket helps when re-installing rear tire
a little after shot
putting on front tire is a snap thr rear however is a BIATCH
***note*** get service manual for all specs on torque settings
***note*** buy new pulley bolts and rotor bolts
get another person 4 SURE life will be much much easier
hope this helps out someone who thinks they cant trust me
if i can do it you can good luck mike
