How much oil goes through the Oil Cooler?
I just installed an Oil Cooler on my Heritage. I was noticing that the passages on the Adapter Plate were pretty small.
Does anyone know how much oil actually passes throught the Filter and Cooler?
It can't be 100%, I'm thinking more like 20-30% ??

OK, maybe I didn't explain myself that well. Of course, eventually all the oil gets through the oil filter and oil cooler, I thought that just went without saying.
As an example, your engine probably holds around 3 to3 1/2 qts of oil. It is not all going through the filter/cooler at the same time, just a percentage is, the rest is lubricating the engine or in the lines and tank.
What I was wondering was what percentage is actually passing through at any one time. Like I said, the passages on the new oil cooler I just installed are pretty small, even smaller than the passages on the oil cooler bracket by itself (without the optional cooler).
I guess I was a little concerned that by installing the cooler, I was somewhat restricting the oil flow a little. I'm probably just over thinking it a little.

On your original question.... Not sure about the V twin but on many motors, not just motorcycle engines, the oil filter is not in series with the oil circuit, it's in parallel. In otherwords, it's not like an air filter where all of the air is filtered going into intake, that would be in series. In parallel, just a portion gets filtered, sort of a fork in the road if you will... and the filter being in series on only one of those forks. All of the oil does eventually pass through the filter because it's a recirculating system.
