Default "brushed" chrome

I am pretty sure someone here has done this, or it may have been someone in the touring forum. I saw someone who had changed the look of their chrome to a satin or brushed look. I want to say they used a scotch brite pad or maybe even sandpaper. Anyone here know how to do this? I am thinking about doing it on my muffler. I think if the exhaust looked more like the "polished" engine covers on the crossbones, it would look sweet. Anyone know if there would be any ill effects? I can't imagine it would cause the exhaust to rust or anything, considering it is probably stainless steel that has been chromed. I am also considering getting the muffler coated in black hi-temp powder coat. So if I try the brushed finish and it doesn't turn out, I can still get it coated.....

WD-40 and a green scrubber pad. Make sure you keep the "scratches" going the same direction.

Russel from Exile was known for it a couple years back. Shouldn't rust at all, but any sign of it, and a quick wipe down with WD-40 cures that.

Yep Exile uses that technique all the time. Like above keep the stokes the same direction. Gives it kinda nickle look.

I have used the gray (fine grit) scotchbright pad with WD-40 or any light weight clear oil. Like everyone has said make sure you go in one direction, front to back. You only need very lite pressure to get the brush look.

You can try it the way they say but it will not look right. The rigth way to do it is satin it before you chrome it. If you rub too hard you will cut through the chrome and in time it will rust. I have been chroming for 30+ yrs. 908-327-2554 if you have ?

Are you able to give parts the same satin chrome look as the stock Fat Boy Lo engine parts? I'm considering the front forks, air cleaner cover and the saddlebag mounts.

Thanks!
