Sorry for the delayed update so here it is. I had to file the cable end where it fits into the bracket inside the clutch cover. It was not allowing the cable to return and therefore causing too much slack in the line. I ended up filing about 10% off so it could return. Has anyone ever had to do this before? I also ened up adjusting the clutch from behind the derby cover and that helped as well.

Thanks for all the advice here, it was greatly appreciated.

Hmmm, thats interesting, I have a98 Fatboy and am taking off the clutch cable becaue I have too much slack as well. I can't adjust it enough to get the slack out. I assumed it was the cable, but all looks well once I got into the outside tranny cover. What exactly do you have to file down?

Must've been a manufacturing defect.

I had to file down the lead piece on the end of the cable so that that pivot that it sits in would have a smooth action. It was very lightly hanging up and it would not return on the ball bearings causing slack in the cable. Once you put the snap ring back in, you should have return in the clutch hande.
