Default Fatboy Clutch Cable install help

Hello,

I'm going to install a new clutch cable tonight and have never done this. Is there anything special that I need to know when installing this? Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

The only thing special you need is access to a shop manual.

Make sure you have snap ring pliers to remove
the ring inside the clutch cover. Other than pretty
straight forward

Depending on what year Fatboy you have you might need to remove the exhaust to get the tranny cover off. I just swapped out to a braided stainless on my 92. The stinking snap ring on the inside was the BIGGEST pain for me. Make sure you look at where your old cable is routed BEFORE it comes off!! You'd be surprised how soon you forget when you go to route the new one. Do you have a maintenance manual? It helped for me.

I have a 93 FLSTF and I do believe I have to pull the rear pipe to remove the cover. I do have snap ring pliers but do not have a manual. Thanks for the tips and I will let ya know how it goes.

Also regarding the snap ring, I recall the manual mentioning the positioning of the snap ring once installed, probably 180 degrees from the open area within the cover.
The other thing - be careful not to overtighten the clutch cable into the case - it will strip the threads.

Yah you definately need a good pair of heavy duty snapring pliers because thats a big snap ring. but other than that its pretty simple.
