Default 2011 Softail Body Control Module (BCM) Safety Recall 0144

Feb 10th, 2011

This is a very brief summary from the bulletin a dealer just handed me, my bike is on the list.

Basically, water can get into the BCM (computer) and cause a stall. Be careful when washing or if rained on.

Parts are not in yet.

New bikes not yet delivered but affected, may not be delivered until repaired.

Affects bikes built thru October 14 2011.

I think you mean Oct. 14 2010.

Anyway, any internet version available of this.

Looks like it only applies if you have security system installed.

Default 2011 Softail recall

Got my recall letter. Bought a 2011 Heritage Softail Classic with the HD security and ABS factory installed option (picked it up 9/16/2010). Took it to the dealer on Saturday (3/19/2011) they replaced the BCM but now the security doesn't work. Just noticed it tonight (3/20/2011) looks like it's back to the dealer. I'll keep you posted. Hope they just forgot to wire the security back on. Loved knowing it was somewhat safe when I walked away ;-(

Ride with a buddy and lock the two bikes together to have them look elsewhere for easier pickings.

There are two different BCMs. Sounds like they put the wrong one in.

I had an appt. to get mine taken care of last week. Only to be called the morning of the appt and told not to bother bringing the bike in cause they didn't have any Non-security BCMs in stock. They had been ordered but not received yet.

My '11 Heritage does not have security, but was on the list to be replaced.

So was mine. I think HD is doing it as a precautionary measure.

I haven't had any issues with the bike, but will surely get the BCM replaced since its done at no charge.

According to HD Website's Recall section, my wife's 2011 Deluxe needs the recall performed, even though it doesn't have the factory alarm... Mmm, perhaps I can persuade them to put one in...

Question Body Control Module (BCM) Problem in 2012 Softail FatBoy?

I bought a 2012 FatBoy a few months ago; and had the engine stalling sometimes; at first the dealer said it was the gear limiter (maybe I had been revving it too high and it was controlling the engine to prevent redlining at 5,400 rpm or so). It happened again a few days ago at lower RPMs less than 3,000; and now they say it's the BCM that has to be replaced. Not sure if it's the same problem as the 2011 recall; I don't think water got inside of it.
Anyone else seeing this BCM problem for 2012?
Haven't seen a recall for it yet.
