Default Strip/Sand & Polish lowers

I have been asked a few times what method I used to refinish the lowers on the wifes deluxe.

The lowers is an easy/cheap time consuming job.
I would say 8 hours a 12 pack and a load of patients :-)

The by hand option--you can use power tools or take apart & do on the bench.
you will need a container with water add a little dish soap to the water.

1) remove the wheel
2) remove the fender
3) strip with furniture striper (clean with wire wool)
4) wet sand with 400/800/1500/2000/3000- take your time it will look great.(sand in 1 direction)
5) I use autosol polish w/newsprint-
I have used this for years and works great but there are many good polishes out there.
6) buff to a shine with terry cloth or mothers ball or what ever method you choose.

stand back and give yourself a pat on the back as you just saved a few $$$ to spend on another mod :-)

the start

Wow... nice job brother!!! Might have to try this out myself. If all else fails, I might save a little money at the chromer... LoL! Wonder if I used a bench grinder with polish / buff wheels, if it would be any shinier?

They actually look better in person, I am doing my own right now and going to use a buffer to polish..

I used a buffer to polish these. Hard to see in the pictures they turned out pretty good.

That looks great! I actually like polished aluminum better than chrome. Look's 'ritcher' and chrome has a 'plastic' look to it. Thanks for the post.
