Default 3-Inch VS 3.5-Inch Wide Wheels & Tire Size

I have 16 X 3-inch laced wheels. Stock rear tire is a 150/90-16. I am getting a Dunlop Elite 3 that is 160/80-16. I know the advertised inflated width and how tall it is on a 3.5-inch wheel. What effect does putting it on a 3-inch wheel have on the inflated width and height? I have detachable hardware on my bike and the bolts extend in about 1/4-inch inside the fender strut. I know I can trim them but if I don't have to I would prefer not to mess with it. Thanks

Had to trim the bolts with my 160 but also have a 4.25" rim. The 160 on a 3" rim will be more round, wear more in the middle. People do it, just not ideal.

^^^^^^^

What Kuma said... just gonna be a little "round". I think you will clear the bolts, but just make sure.

Update and more questions. I have the Dunlop E3's, not installed yet. Trimmed the bolts inside the rear fender. Now I'm wondering if a 3.5" wide wire wheel will work on my '04 Heritage. Seems like it should if some of you are running 4.25" wheels. Did any Harley models come with 16 x 3.5" 40-spoke wheels that would fit my bike? I'd like to find one in nice used condition.
