Father in-law has a 2002 Heritage Classic. The gas tank liner is peeling and causing problems with the carb. After doing research on resealing tank and new paint found the cost of new from Harley was not that much different. So i ordered a tank with matching paint, This was on Dec 18, 2010. was told it would be here around the end of January. Now it is May and being told sometime in June. Seems Harley does not make these tanks anymore. But they are taking orders for them. Call the customer care number on the website to get some help and they questioned why I was even calling them. Said I needed to talk to the dealer. The dealer is not the one who dropped the ball, it is Harley. Will other year tanks fit this bike?
Just spoke with Harley again, the Customer Care Department. They questioned why i was even calling them and said in a very rude way to talk to the dealership not them. They rep's name was Roxanne. Thought if you had a problem then you called the Customer care department. Guess not with Harley!!
I have checked ebay and found one the correct color. was in worse shape than I already had. Just wanted new to aviod buying the same problem. Color is Luxury red and black with orange pinstripe.
If the only problem is the coating peeling off and the paint is in good shape with no dents, why not use Kreem and do it yourself? I did a custom build on an '03 Heritage and used Kreem. It wasn't hard, just took a little time. Harley and BMW are the only manufacturers to coat gas tanks.
Tank was dropped. That is the other reason for buying new. Probably could be buffed out but with the inside peeling and scratches on the outside wanted new.
