Default 1991 FLSTC Crankcase to air cleaner pukes oil

I have a 1991 FLSTC with a S&S carb. I routed the crankcase breather hose from the air cleaner to a crankcase breather filter. Oil will come out of the crankcase whenever the bike sits for a period of time without running (2-3 Weeks). It is usually a small about of oil but is a pain in the *** to clean up. I seemed to always have this problem. Is there something in the oil return or crankcase breathing system that is not working properly?

Pretty common if you let the bike sit...though 2-3 weeks sounds like a short period to have much "puking" out. The check ball in the oil pump is the culprit and if you google it you will find dozens of backyard fixes...some will do more damage than good if done wrong. They make a breather that has an oil collector that you can drain at your leisure...but they are proud of it. The simplest solution is to ride the bike more.

Hey Tom, thanks for the quick reply. When I ride the bike more often then I don't have this issue. I rather fix it right the first time. The bike has about 68K miles on it. I wonder if replacing the oil pump will remedy this.

all my evos have done this. my new 03 evo sportster even did this. the thing i always do is clean the oil out of the air cleaner, then it takes a while before it drips out if the ac and blows drops on the side of the bike. then repeat as needed.

Mine does it, too. I fold up a paper towel and stick it in the bottom of the air cleaner, between the element and the cover. I have to change it every 2-300 miles.
