Default Help reinstalling front wheel

I'm in the process of installing my new front wheel on my 06 FXST. I decided to tear into it without a manual in hand because the dealer told me that mine "should be here anyday now". Little did I know that "anyday now" would be a week later and still waiting. Anyhow....that's a gripe for another thread. I need to know the torque specs for the axle nut and the 2 nuts on the right side that hold the cap that secures the axle. Also what is the procedure for the whole process...snug axle on left then torque cap on right side???...torque cap then axle nut??? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Straight from the 2007 manual - Hope it helps you out:

1. Apply a light coat of LOCTITE ANTI-SEIZE LUBRICANT to the axle.
2. Place wheel into front fork and install axle. Verify that axle spacers on right and left side are properly installed.
3. Install the washer and axle nut. Insert screwdriver or steel rod through hole in axle on right side of vehicle. While holding axle stationary, tighten axle nut to 60-65 ftIbs (81.3-88.1 Nm).

NOTE
In next step, make sure front and rear gaps between slider cap and slider is even.
4. See Figure 2-4. Tighten the slider cap nuts to 11-15 ft-lbs (14.9-20.3 Nm).
5. See Figure 2-3. Install the brake caliper to the fork legs.
a. Loosely install long mounting bolt (1) (12 pt/10 mm) into top hole on fork leg.
b. Install short mounting bolt (2) (12 pt/10 mm) into bottom hole on fork leg. Tighten bottom mounting bolt to 28-38 ft-lbs (38.0-51.5 Nm).
c. Final tighten the top mounting bolt to 28-38 ft-Ibs (38.0-51.5 Nm).

Sagebrush, Many people make the mistake of over tightening the axle nut which can place excess stress on the wheel bearings leading to premature wear and failure. Follow the instructions posted by Rakthi and use a bit of Red loctite on the axle threads.

That's how I did it on my old Sportster but it just had 1 pinch bolt and the axle nut......I wasn't sure about the cap on the right side on the Softail.

Point well taken. I've already got the anti-sieze on the axle and the loc-tite is ready too. I wonder if the torque value is less for my 06 though....the axle on the 07's were 1" compared to 3/4" for mine.

My Xbones still has the .75" axle, same 60-65 ftIbs torque values. So you should be good.
